ALOR SETAR, Nov 14 — The Kedah government needs to create more industries to generate a higher income without neglecting the padi based agricultural sector, former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today.
He said, the padi sector should be managed efficiently to ensure a high production in order to guarantee the staple’s supply and also to boost farmers’ earnings.
“I see two important areas to be addressed in Kedah. First, to guarantee food supply and second to increase the people’s income.
“For that, the government needs to create industries which can provide more jobs to locals,” he said during a dialogue at the 7 Days 7 Nights carnival at the Padi Museum in Gunung Keriang, here today.
He added that farmers must use modern equipment to obtain higher yields
“And to increase their income, the local community needs to get involved in the padi farming sector instead of only depending on foreign workers,” he said.— Bernama
